Step by step

  1. Open Tasks and click the task you want to update.
  2. Read its title, assignee and status so the update goes on the right record.
  3. Under Comments, type a decision, blocker or handoff note and click Post.
  4. Under Documents, drop files onto Add supporting files, or click it to choose files. Wait for the uploaded files to appear in the task’s document list.
  5. Open a linked email to revisit the original request. Compare its contents with the task’s due date and description.
  6. If a document was linked incorrectly, use Remove beside that document. Manage the original file in Documents.

Assign the next step

Check the assignee and status when responsibility changes. Unassigned work is different from work assigned to a particular person. If a teammate cannot see or change a task, check their company role.

Removing a link

The Remove action in the task’s document list detaches that document from the task. To manage the original file, use Documents. Keep comments focused on decisions, blockers and what needs to happen next.

Check the result

The comment and document link should be visible on the task. Detaching a file from the task does not mean deleting the library document.

Before you add a file

Comments and attachment links need task editing access; uploading a new file also depends on document access. Check the client and project so the context belongs with the right work.

Check the result and recover

Your comment should appear under Comments, and the file under Documents. Open the attachment to check it is the right version. If an upload fails, check the displayed error and file list before uploading again. Removing the task link leaves the library file available in Documents.

Labels use the English interface. Available pages and actions depend on your company, plan and permissions.
