Prepare the handover
Before removing someone, review their tasks, client work, files, mailbox ownership and connected calendars with them. Save any information they need before access ends. Reassign tasks you want to keep assigned; the removal process unassigns their tasks.
Remove a member or leave yourself
- Open Settings → Members. To remove someone else, you need permission to delete Members & roles.
- Choose Remove for that member, read the confirmation and choose Remove member. Check that the person disappears from the list.
- To leave yourself, choose Leave company and confirm. The last owner must transfer ownership or delete the company first.
- Check continuing team access to shared mailboxes, calendars and reassigned work. Leaving one company does not delete your account or memberships elsewhere.
What happens to connections and records
When another person removes a member, their shared mailboxes pass to the person doing the removal; their private mailboxes are disabled. When a person leaves themselves, mailboxes they connected are disabled, including shared ones. Their connected calendar accounts are disconnected. Company records they created remain, and their tasks become unassigned. Review external provider access separately when handing over an account.
Transfer company ownership
- As the owner, open Settings → Members → Ownership and choose Transfer ownership.
- Select an existing member. If the intended owner is not listed, invite them and wait for them to join.
- Read the confirmation and type the company name exactly. Enter your current password; an account without a password confirms with a recent Google or Microsoft sign-in or an authenticator code.
- Confirm the transfer. Check that the selected person is owner and your role is now Admin. The new owner should review Billing and the company’s ongoing responsibilities.
If the handover is blocked
The only owner cannot leave or be removed. Ownership cannot be handed to someone who has not joined. You can leave a read-only workspace, subject to the last-owner rule. Role changes and ownership transfer still need the required access. If a necessary handover fails, contact support; do not delete the company as a workaround.
